Part of CNRS's event «Echappées inattendues »

The theme of this lecture-demonstration is musical listening, and more specifically the question of selective listening in the context of polyphonic productions: what makes a musical voice more or less easy to follow? What makes a musical voice more or less easy to follow? What suddenly attracts our listening to one voice rather than another?

Researchers from the Sciences et technologies de la musique et du son laboratory decipher the mysteries of sound perception! Take part in the experiment they have prepared with composer Sébastien Roux, who has created a series of short miniatures of electronic music for three voices, and you'll learn all about listening in a concert context.

The fifteen-minute participatory experiment will be preceded by an introduction that situates research on musical listening in relation to work in the fields of psychoacoustics and musicology, and a collective discussion will follow the presentation of the experiment's results.
